First Anniversary Remix Project

Oh how time flies when you’re releasing, what we consider to be, forward-thinking and creative electronic music! Just one year ago we pushed the big green button marked “GO” and launched Astor Bell for public consumption. In the past 12 months we’ve released 12 titles, all very near and dear to our hearts.

As our first anniversary started to near we began kicking around ideas to mark our progress. We could’ve released a sampler, another label mix, or maybe even some unreleased tracks: All valid ways to help us turn the page into the next 12 months. But the winning idea surfaced quite clearly. That being to loosen our grip and open the gates into the Astor Bell brain.

The sum of our contributing artist’s work is greater than the label name we put on it. And it is surely greater than two 30-somethings sitting behind computers making the files available to you. The broken beats, the down-sampled waves, the backwards bass and the organic subway samples accumulate like a snowball rolling down a ski slope into complete pieces of audio that dig themselves into the deeper parts of our being.

Our artists have backtracked into their harddrives and extracted these singular moments, scattered them over the floor and are hoping you can assist in pasting them back together into something wonderful.

We would like to invite you to participate in Astor Bell’s 1st Anniversary Remixes.

The deadline for entries is May 1st, 2010.

The remixes that we enjoy the most will be released as a compilation in June 2010.

Thanks for listening and happy remixing!

Keeping up with 1st Dude

Well hello there. We hope all is well dear readers. Just wanted to point out a bit of news about one of our AB acts. 1st Dude, who in my opinion released one of the most original and interesting EPs of the year, has just dropped a massive 24-track full length on the newly-formed Reesonable imprint entitled Freaky Invisible Magic Hook. Follow that link to stream every song in its entirety. Purchase for a minimal fee.

If you were a fan of 1st Dude’s Bassid EP then you’ll surely dig this as well. The info I have is sketchy, as is most information surrounding Sandy Shirely, but from what I gather this is a collection of songs he’s been working on over the years. It’s just a beat up, weird and genius as the Bassid EP. So go there now!

We’re always glad to see our artists continue to put out music. Even if the release isn’t affiliated with AB we’ll do our best to keep you updated right here.

Happy listening!

New release! Fabrizio Cacciamali’s Kobalt Trees

Monday, September 14th, 2009

We randomly came across Fabrizio Cacciamali‘s previous work and had to get in contact with him and see if he was interested in releasing something with Astor Bell. Luckily he was totally into the idea.

So, we’re proud to release Kobalt Trees, a stunning EP of digital dabbles grounded in repetition and expanded upon in manipulation. The listener is taken to the exact fraction of time in which the machines fail. Everyone and everything, reset to presets.

Help us welcome Milan, Italy’s finest to the Astor Bell roster and download the EP here.

Astor Bell Label Mix 001-009

labelmix01_art_350

Recently we received a wonderful surprise in our inbox. Dan Brasco, who’s of course one of the newest artists on the AB roster, put together a comprehensive and engaging mix of songs from all 9 AB releases and shared it with us. We loved it so much we wanted to share it with all of you!

As we’ve stated all along, these releases don’t fit into the same genre, category, etc… Some were built for clubs while others were engineered for headphones and living room dance parties at noon. What we do know is that all AB releases evoke a (for lack of a better word) “vibe” that engaged us upon first listen.

So hearing these songs meshed into one another makes for an interesting listening experience to say the least, as well as gives us a pretty cool summary of what we’ve all accomplished in the past 7 months.

You can download and check out the tracklist on the Mixes page.

A big thanks to Dan for putting this together!

New release alert! 1st Dude has landed

The 1st Dude

Now if this isn’t a face only a mother could love then I don’t know what is.

We would like to introduce to you Wiltshire, UK by way of New York City’s finest, 1st Dude. As we have mentioned before he is 1. a genius and 2. a tangled web of mysteriousness, although his keeper did float over a nice bio (finally) in which you can review.

ASTOR005 : Bassid is 1st Dude’s second release and his first with Astor Bell. A snappy 6-song romp through the padded cell maze that is 1st Dude’s brain. Percussive, sample-based originality.

In a world where it seems like we’ve heard it all before, 1st Dude steps up and delivers this fresh collection of glitchy perfection. The rhythms on this record constantly hit hard while a sea of peripherals are constantly changing.

At Astor Bell we generally think that words are quite silly. We are sort of forced to write quick descriptions to fill up the space. So please, if you are so inclined, have a listen for yourself.

xo,
Astor Bell
